The Whisky Lounge Ireland Vs Scotland Tasting , Newcastle June 12th

Once again we gathered in Blackfriars for one of Eddies tasting , a return of the Ireland Vs Scotland match ! Six drams , all tasted blind and scored out of Ten .

First one was Bright Gold in Colour , it's nose was Citrus , fudge and slight sherry . The palate was weak at first then fudgy again with spices , cake dough and dried fruits . It had a medium finish of dried fruits and sherry . I found it very weak at first but it seemed to liven up after a while . Turns out it was a 10yo Glengoyne at 40% . I scored it 7.5 , the group average was 7.15 .

Number two was gold in colour , Fresh , sweet and Flowery on the nose . The palate was flowery again and had Chinese banana fritters with syrup as well . Another medium finish once again flowery .It was a strange whisk(e)y , very flowery , this one was a Bushmill 10yo at 40% . 7 / 7.16 .

The Third of the night was a light Amber colour , it had a very light nose , so light i was getting nothing from it except a slight sweetness . The palate again gave nothing but a slight shortbread and the finish was very short . I wasn't impressed with this one at all , nothing seemed to be happening ! Turns out it was Greenspot at 40% , 7 / 7.61 .

Fourth was another one that was a light Amber in colour . The nose was flowery with a fudgy sweetness , the palate was basically the same with a short finish . it was a nice enough dram but nothing to get excited about . 7.5 / 7.98 .

The Penultimate dram was a pale gold , very pungent on the nose , peaty , iodine and liquorice . The palate was Fishermans Friends and slightly pepperminty . It had a long finish with Liquorice . A really nice Whiskey that was a Caskstrength Connamara at 58% . 8 / 7.79 .

The final one of the night was my favourite , Amber in colour , the nose was Medicinal with smoke and iodine . The palate was again very nedicinal and sweet with a long and medicinal finish . I initially thought it was a Caol Ila but it turned out to be the Cask Strength Laphroaig . 8.5 / 8.2 .

Another good tasting hosted by Eddie !
