My Bottlings
Bruichladdich Bottlings

Up Until 2001 i only had a few Bottles of Bruichladdich Whisky , a couple of O.B.'s , a couple of SMWS ones and the Ardnave bottling from Tesco's . Since the re-opening i've bought a few more !

Again i've listed them in order of Distillery bottlings then independents and at some point i'll get around to writing tasting notes for them .

port charlotte bloodtub port charlotte bourbon barrel the spirit of islay hogshead

Below are details of the Casks i own or have shares in , on the 5th August 2004 i visited the warehouse in the company of John Rennie the Bruichladdich warehouseman and got samples out of each of them .included are my notes on the samples and some comments given by John , unfortunately my tasting receptors and descriptions are not up to Michael Jacksons , Dave Brooms and friends !
Malt - Port Charlotte Date Filled- 12th June 2001 Bottling Date- 25th Nov 2005 (bottled at 61.4%). % when Casked- 72 to 76
Description- 32litre bloodtub , 40 ppm phenols . The following tasting notes were made on the 5th August 2004 when the cask was officially 3yo .
Colour- Amber
Nose- (Fullstrength) Extremely Malty , Nutty , Very slight Iodine . (With Water) Extreme Malt , Lots of Smoke .
taste- (FS) Malt (WW) The sherry comes out but not excessively , slight Dark fruits .
Finish- Long and Malty .

Comments- Needless to say this one got the taste buds drooling , not a trace of feints at all , Johns still sticking (as i am ) with his estimate of ready at 6yo , he says to leave it no more than 8 years . The bloodtubs are maturing very well and extremely fast !

*After another visit to the cask in June 2005 , a decision was reached to bottle the bloodtub this year . This was decided on due to the fact that the bloodtubs had been transfered to fresh ones in December 2004 (some had started to split ) and we did not want overly sherried whisky . *

Malt- Port Charlotte Date Filled- 6th December 2001 Possible Bottling Date- 2011? % when Casked- 72 to 76
Description- 10th share in a 200 litre Bourbon Barrel , 40 ppm phenols. The following tasting notes were made on the 5th August 2004 when the cask was officially 2yo .
Colour- Bright Straw going onto Gold
Nose -(FS)Fruity (soft fruits , gooseberries), Slight feints , slight Maltiness (WW) Apples ! though still slightly feinty .
taste -(FS) very feinty (WW) fruit , slight vanilla detected .
Finish- Spirity
Comments -although not as far on as the Bloodtub this is an interesting cask , John was well impressed with it , he did admit to preferring fresh bourbon to sherry but he says all Islay malts are better in bourbon. At least 10 years for this one .

Malt- Port Charlotte Date Filled- 8th November 2002 Possible Bottling Date- 2016? % when Casked- 72 to 76
Description- The Spirit of Islay Cask ! 20th share in a 250 litre Refill Sherry Hogshead Cask , 40 ppm phenols. The following tasting notes were made on the 5th August 2004 when the cask was officially 1yo .
Colour- Bright Straw going onto Gold .
Nose- (FS) Feinty , slight fruitiness but it had that refill sherry in the background (similar to the 1990/cask 988 valinch ) . (WW) Malty
taste- (FS) Slight smokiness though still very feinty . (WW) Nutty Malt .
Finish- Spirity smoke !
Comments -the youngest of the 3 i was expecting not too much to have happened but it is a superb colour and even though feinty you can see where it's heading .John reckons this is an excellent cask (possibly just 1st or 2nd refill going off the colour) and it should be left till its at least in it's mid-teens , can we wait that long ? i can if it developes as well as expected .
