Bottling a Cask

Designing the Label !

I had a rough idea about what i wanted for the look of the label but honing it gave me an excuse to have a bit mess about on my computer trying to get it perfect .....

Bloodtub Label

The very first attempt ! This was done well before i thought of actually bottling the cask , no imagination , just using my site logo and stating all the information about the stuff inside the bottle . Also i thought it was going to be another year older .

Bloodtub Label

By this time i'd asked Ian for permission to use his painting , i'd also switched the design around for a squatter bottling (similar to the Laddie / Bunnahabhain style) . Also at this point i had all the writing on the painting , which as Mel pointed out , detracted from Ians artwork .

Back to the traditional label shape/size , starting to take the look i wanted , still wasn't happy with it though .It looked all right on a green and a clear bottle .

Bloodtub Label

Tried incorperating a bit of the previous two designs together , traditional shape , larger picture with part of the bottling info on the picture .By now i'd settled for the traditional shape size , just the case of tweaking the final design .

Got bored with the plain White background and went with a colour from the painting . Still thought something was amiss , so on with more tinkering .

Bloodtub Label

Decided the Black writing didn't look right with the blue background , was a lot happier with this look . The only problen i discovered was that it didn't look right if by chance a Green bottle was used ......

Bloodtub Label

Decided on trying to use the colours of my site as an experiment so changed the background to cream and the writing to green.Hmmm.... not bad , something still din't look balanced though !

Bloodtub Label

Took the writing completely off the painting , added a green frame (one of Mels ideas , thank you darling ! ) and also placed 2 of my site logo's either side of the cask info . Started to feel like my label now ......

Bloodtub Label

This one was slimlined to try and get it to fit on some Avery sticky labels (just incase the price of printing them properly was too much !) . Then i thought what the hell ! why spoil the ship for a happeth of Tar !

Bloodtub Label

After talking to a printer , i re-sized the label , i've also changer the frame , moved it in slightly so there is a cream border . After talking to the distillery i was also told i didn't need to put the e after the bottle size . So now to submit the label to the Distillery for their approval , hope it 's all right !
