About the Isle
Places to Stay and Eat

There are numerous places to stay on the Isle , to many to go into here . If your looking for somewhere have a look on the Ileachs Accomodation page or the Visit Scotland site .

One complaint that has been levelled at the Isle is the lack of places to eat out in , we've never had a problem with this , here is a list where we've had complete satisfaction :-

Old Kiln Cafe , Ardbeg Distillery - superb ! Only open during the day but the lunches (and Marys' Clootie dumpling ) are great .
Taj Mahal , Shore Street , Bowmore - Indian that's been open for over a year now , food was Fantastic but has went back a bit with a change in the kitchen (Will keep an eye on the quality to see what happens) , still doesn't have a drinks licence but you can take your own alcohol in.
Croft Kitchen , Port Charlotte - Good food during the day and fantastic local produce at night (you have to book for the evening meals ).
The Port Charlotte Hotel - Great place to spend a few days , staff are great , the bar meals are fantastic . The Restaurant is probably one of the best we've eaten in , Not the cheapest of places to eat but as the saying goes "you only get what you pay for" and the food is superb , Nouvelle cuisine but in man size portions ! We had our 10th Wedding Anniversary meal here as well , couldn't have picked a better place and the whisky selections not too bad in the bar either...
The Machrie Hotel , By Port Ellen - Lovely place to stay , great menu and well stocked bar !
The Maharani Restaurant and Take-away , Port Ellen - haven't had a sit down meal , a bit too small and Claustrophobic for our liking , but the take away we had was very , very good .
The Nippy Chippy - The Mobile chip van - Torture followed by sheer ecstacy . Torture waiting for the fish supper to cook , the smells emanating from the van . Ecstacy when you finally taste one of the finest fish suppers we've ever had .
The Drome Cafe , Airport - Basic Fayre done exceptionally well at a good price ! Well recommended (daytime only).
The Bridgend Hotel , Bridgend - Good sunday lunch in the recently refurbished hotel.
The White Hart Hotel , Port Ellen - Nice Lounge Bar and extended Restaurant , passable meals at reasonable prices.
The Lochside Hotel , Bowmore - Beautiful Malt Whisky bar , could do better with the food .Great views from the Conservatory across Loch Indaal.

All of the other hotels do lunchtime and evening meals , it's just that we've never got around to them ......
